Vinay Arora and his family are among those hundreds of migrants who adopted Australia as their country of citizenship. It took him almost Eight years to become a citizen. What took him so long?

“I came here in in April of 2010, so yes it took little less than eight years. I was not sure about leaving my Indian citizenship. I had it for 37 years before coming here, so it was not easy to give up,” says Arora who became an Australian citizen in a ceremony organised by Parramatta council in Western Sydney.

For Sumit and Rashmi on the other hand, it was not that difficult. “I felt sad when I left India for Australia. But today I am happy. Australia is home to me. And you cannot take India out of me. We are always connected to our roots in India,” says Rashmi who, along with her husband Sumit, became an Australian citizen.
