The new funding will be used to upgrade the driveway and entry points of the Cultural and Heritage Centre.

It will also be used to add more than 300 car parks on the site.

Government believes thousands of Hindu, Indian and wider community members from Carrum Downs and surrounding area will benefit from the project.

Multicultural Affairs Robin Scott said, “The upgrades to the Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple will help our Hindu community enshrine and share their values of compassion, selflessness, harmony, tolerance and respect.”

“By working together with local communities, we are building a Victoria where everyone belongs, feels accepted and can freely participate and contribute.”

Member for Carrum Sonya Kilkenny said, “Our local Hindu community has been advocating for upgrades to the Cultural and Heritage Centre – we’ve listened and we’re getting it done.”

The funding is being provided through the state government’s Community Infrastructure and Cultural Precincts (CICP) program.

Mr Rama Prasad Vemula, Chairman of the Hindu Society of Victoria’s Cultural and Heritage Centre told SBS Hindi the funding was a big boost for the community.

He said, “We are very pleased with this announcement. It is a big boost and we are happy to say that the community will be happy with this announcement.

“Parking is a problem outside the temple, especially during rains. We hope to start work on the car park soon,” he said.
