First a special fund for attracting Bollywood films to Victoria, then $14.5 million to build two Indian aged-care facilities, followed by $100,000 events package for the 32nd Annual Australian Sikh Games to be held in Melbourne next year, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is on an announcement spree to woo the Indian community before the state elections in November this year.
On Saturday, Premier Andrews made yet another announcement.
“A re-elected Labor government will provide $556,000 to kickstart a new multipurpose Indian Community Centre in Melbourne’s South-east,” he said at the Sankat Mochan Samiti Temple on Saturday.
Premier Andrews also committed to a further $500,000 if re-elected, towards building the centre.

To be delivered as part of the Multicultural Community Infrastructure Program, the Centre will be used for events, festivals and activities including adult education programs, as well as providing a dedicated space for locals with Indian heritage to come together and celebrate their culture and traditions.

The Sankat Mochan Samiti will lead the development of the Centre, with every Indian community group in Monash able to make use of the facility.
Premier Daniel Andrews said, “This investment will provide a dedicated space for Victorians of Indian heritage to come together and celebrate their culture and traditions with pride.”
