India’s Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal announced on Wednesday that Khichdi will be promoted as “Brand India food” at an event in Delhi on November 4.

The Hindu reported that over 800 kilograms of this nutritious Indian dish will be cooked by celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor at World Food India event. It is an attempt to create a world record.

After this announcement, some reports suggested that Khichdi would be named India’s National dish, which was later denied by the minister.
But the topic captured social media users’ imagination and soon #khichdi was trending on twitter.

Some connected it to national pride while others used to it make fun of politicians.
