ICC picks its Under-19 cricket world cup team: 5 Indians, 0 Australian

India’s Under-19 cricket team lifted a record fourth U-19 World Cup trophy on Saturday after an eight-wicket rout of Australia in the final at Mount Maunganui in New Zealand.

Indian players have dominated the Under-19 World Cup team announced by the ICC on Sunday, with five players from the victorious Indian team making it to the world eleven.

The world team has the top three of the Indian batting line-up -- captain Prithvi Shaw (261 runs), player of the final Manjot Kalra (252 runs) and player of the tournament Shubman Gill (372 runs).

Left-arm spinner Anukul Roy (14 wickets) and fast bowler Kamlesh Nagarkoti (9 wickets) are the other Indians named in the world team.

South Africa's Raynard Van Tonder has been named as the captain of the side which involves players from three other countries - New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

None of the Australian players were picked in the world eleven team.

The team of the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup was picked by a five-person selection panel that comprised former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, former Indian women's captain Anjum Chopra, former New Zealand captain Jeff Crowe, journalist Shashank Kishore and former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody.

The team of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018 (in batting order):

  1. Prithvi Shaw (India) –261 runs
  2. Manjot Kalra (India) – 252 runs
  3. Shubman Gill (India) – 372 runs
  4. Finn Allen (New Zealand) – 338 runs
  5. Raynard van Tonder (South Africa, captain) – 348 runs
  6. Wandile Makwetu (wicket-keeper) (South Africa) – 184 runs and 11 dismissals (all catches)
  7. Anukul Roy (India) – 14 wickets
  8. Kamlesh Nagarkoti (India)– 9 wickets
  9. Gerald Coetzee (South Africa) – 8 wickets
  10. Qais Ahmad (Afghanistan) – 14 wickets
  11. Shaheen Afridi (Pakistan) – 12 wickets
12th man: Alick Athanaze (Windies) – 418 runs
