Iconic Indian actor Shashi Kapoor dies at 79

Iconic Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor is best known for his acting in films like Deewar, Namak Halal, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Shaan to name a few.

Veteran Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor died on Monday after prolonged illness and old age at the age of 79.

Shashi Kapoor died at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and the funeral will be held on Tuesday. 
Known for his charming looks and dynamic personality, the actor ruled the silver screen over two decades starring in some memorable films like Deewar, Namak Halal, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Shaan to name a few.
Actor and brother Randhir Kapoor, son of veteran actor Raj Kapoor told the local media, "Yes he has passed away. He had kidney problem since several years. He was on dialysis for several years."

Born as Balbir Raj Prithviraj Kapoor, the actor-filmmaker was the third and youngest son of Prithviraj Kapoor, brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor.

He is survived by three children - Karan Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor, and Sanjana Kapoor- and the Kapoor family, the film dynasty of Bollywood.

He was also hailed as the first Indian actor to work extensively in Hollywood films and British films. Alongwith the big screen, he was also a renowned theatre personality and performed plays, along with his late wife Jennifer Kendal (sister of actress Felicity Kendal).

The government of India honoured Shashi Kapoor with Padma Bhushan in 2011 for his contributions to Art-Cinema.

The late actor was felicitated by 2014 Dadasaheb Phalke Award. After Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor, he was the third member of the Kapoor legacy to be honoured with the highest award in Indian Cinema.
