India media quoting PTI is reporting that the globally renowned IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) are planning to start conducting entrance exams for foreign students in several countries including Pakistan.
According to PTI, recently a meeting was held between the officials of the HRD Ministry as well as the External Affairs Ministry where it was decided that from 2017 entrance exams could be held in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Other countries on the list include Dubai, Singapore and Ethiopia.
Currently there are 18 IITs in India and entrance exams for Indian students at foreign locations are held, but now the IITs are looking to get foreign students enrolled in the prestigious institute. However PTI quoting officials reports that these seats for foreign students will be additional seats and will not affect the enrollment numbers for Indian students. According to PTI this is reportedly being done in an apparent bid to to bolster IITs International Rankings
