The Home Minister of India, Mr Rajnath Singh on Monday inaugurated smart fences that would be installed along parts of India's border with Pakistan in an attempt to strengthen security along frontiers.

"After the effective implementation of this CIBMS on a pilot level, we have decided that 2,026 kilometres (of the border area), which we consider the especially vulnerable area, it will be implemented there, said Singh while addressing a news conference," Mr Singh told the journalists in Jammu.

The project under CIBMS is meant to be one of the many high tech state-of-the-art surveillance technologies to be incorporated. These include infrared and laser beam based intruder alarms, thermal imagers, advanced fence and ground sensors.
