The offer of free air tickets, accommodation and transport is for the international buyers from Australia who are willing to travel to India for upcoming Reverse Buyer Seller Meet for mangoes & seasonal fruits & vegetables.

The meet is on 29-30 May 2019 in Mumbai and 13-14 June 2019 in Lucknow.
India is the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world.

Indian mangoes arrived in Australia in 2017 after the rule around importing Indian mangoes was revised in April. It meant that traders would be able to import the Indian fruit as long as it had been treated with irradiation prior to export.

Before that, a small number of Indian mangoes had managed to sneak into the Australian market over the years under a Vapour Heat Treatment (VHT) protocol. Australia had approved several facilities in India for using irradiation to treat mangoes which opened the Australian market for Indian mangoes.

In a bid to promote Indian mangoes in the Australian market, India is trying to woo Australian traders to visit India.

A public notice, tweeted by the Indian Consulate in Sydney, offers international buyers from Australia freebies like air tickets, accommodation, hospitality and local transport in Mumbai and Lucknow.

“Reverse Buyer Seller Meet for Mangoes & Seasonal Fruits & Vegetables, 29-30 May 2019 - Mumbai & 13-14 June 2019 - Lucknow, India. Free To & fro air tickets, accommodation and transport for international buyers from Australia,” it said.
Many Indians living in Australia crave for Indian mangoes and the fruit is in high demand.

A Sydney-based Indian-Australian trader told SBS Hindi she sold her stock within few hours of arrival last week.

According to a report by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) of India, the country exports mangoes to over 40 countries worldwide.
