Highlights
- India will take on Australia in the final on 8 March 2020 at MCG.
- Over 50,000 tickets have already been sold.
- This will be Indian women's team's maiden T20 world cup final.
It will be a dream final, says TJ Mistry, the leader of the Fans India, a group of fans who cheer for Indian cricket teams around the world.
The group will be flying to Melbourne from Sydney to watch the match on Sunday, March 8.
Australia made it to final after defeating South Africa in a rain-affected match by five runs on DLS method at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday.
‘This great tournament could not have had a better climax,’ says Gurnaam Singh, community ambassador of Cricket Australia.
“Australia is a tremendous place to host the women’s world cup. And in the final, Australia will be playing against India. More than half of the audience at the stadium will be cheering for India,” he said.
India reached the final after the semi-final against England was washed out.
However, this has not affected the spirit of Indian fans.
Mark Mistry, who was there at the SCG for the semi-final, says despite the washout, India deserves to be in the final.
“India deserves to be in the final. They won four matches in a row in the group stage. They deserve to be in the final,” he said.
According to Nick Hockley, ICC T20 WC 2020 Local Organising Committee CEO, over 50,000 tickets had been sold before the semi-finals were played.
“We are getting prepared for the final. We are also getting prepared to welcome Katy Perry for her performance. And, we announced last week that at the halfway point of the tournament we had already sold over 50,000 tickets. Regardless of what team you support, it is going to be a magnificent occasion on International Women’s Day,” Mr Hockley told SBS Hindi.
Indian cricket fans made a dash to buy the tickets after it was clear on Thursday evening that India would play Australia in the final.
Melbourne-based Murtuza Kanchwala will be watching the final with his two daughters and wife. He booked the tickets to the finals only after India was through.

"We've booked the tickets to the finals after the Indian team qualified. The games till now have been quite energetic, and we'll be there to support the Indians win the cup. Go India!," said Mr Kanchwala.
Indian women’s cricket team will have some Australian supporters too. Ms Caroline from the Fans India group is a staunch supporter of the Indian cricket team.
“I suppose I love the spirit that they bring to this game,” says Caroline who visited New Zealand to watch India play against the home country in the Test and one-day series.
She will be at MCG to support the Indian cricket team.
