Over 12,000 people have commented on the post.

A few days later, the boy received a certificate of appreciation from his school.

According to the Indian Express, the boy Derek C Lalchhanhima was presented with the Tawlhloh Puan, a traditional honour given to those who have illustrated remarkable courage.

Indian politician and author Shashi Tharoor has also praised the boy.

"Campaigning leaves little time for real life -- but this heartwarming story of the little boy who ran over a chicken with his cycle, and took it to hospital with whatever little money he had, deserves to be widely shared,"tweeted Mr Tharoor.
Derek is a year one student at the St. Pio School, Sairang. He is unaware of his fame.

Indian Express quoted his mother saying, “After the award, people are teasing him, saying, ‘You have now become a celebrity’. He didn’t even understand that and asked me, ’Mom, what is a celebrity?’”
