46-year-old Rahul Odedra pleaded guilty to placing cameras in restrooms of three schools in southwest England.
Odedra placed hidden cameras in toilet roll holders and cubicles to film women and underage girls, the Gloucester Crown Court was told, according to Daily Mail.
The former teacher was charged with 23 offences of voyeurism. He appeared at the Gloucester Crown court on last Wednesday. The court sentenced him to four years and three months in prison.
Odedra’s acts came to light after a student noticed that she was being filmed by him and reported him.
Prosecutor Anjali Gohil said, “When the police examined the footage that was seized from Mr Odedra there were over 200 videos. They were all of women or females. They appeared to focus upon either looking up a skirt… or carefully planned recordings of women using toilets.”
Judge Ian Lawrie QC said, “You are before this court facing the consequences of what is clearly a long-held secret compulsion to voyeuristically look at females. That is a toxic secret.”
Defense lawyer Joseph Keating told the court that his client was sorry. “At the time of doing this, he had little comprehension of the impact on the victims as they were not physically harmed, but he now fully understands the lasting impact that will be hard to bear. He would like to apologise. He is deeply sorry for what he did,” Keating was quoted saying.
Rahul Odedra has been ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
