On Saturday, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned saviour for an eight-day-old girl from Assam, India Today reported.
Dhrubajyoti Kalita and Himakshi Saharia’s daughter, born in Assam, was diagnosed with meconium aspiration syndrome, a medical condition when first stool of the baby enters the lungs. Inhaling this fluid causes respiratory disorders that may turn fatal.
Doctors in Assam recommended shifting the 8-day-old child to Delhi for treatment and arranged for an air ambulance which was scheduled to land during peak hours, 7pm in Delhi.
However, Indian Prime Minister intervened and ensured a traffic-free passage for the medical team, India Today wrote.
"He is our God today," Dhrubajyoti Kalita, father of the newborn told Mail Today. "We sought help from several influential people, including a top IPS officer from northeast working with Delhi police. Nobody did anything. We did not know what would happen to our daughter."
"The way we were received at the airport was beyond our imagination," Kalita said.
"Delhi police was extremely cordial and professional. We cannot thank enough the Prime Minister and Delhi police," child’s mother added.
Doctors on Sunday said the baby is out of danger and making good progress.
