The farm worker, who came from a humble background, was the youngest of three siblings, the Indian Weekender report reads. The family spent a fortune sending him to New Zealand to study.
The student hailed from Talwandi Salbo village in Punjab. He had arrived in New Zealand recently, Bhav Dhillon, honorary consul for India, confirmed, according to New Zealand Herald.
Indian consulate is providing necessary support to the family. "It is not sure whether they will travel to New Zealand or not as they are not financially well-off," Dhillon said.
