The accident occurred on last Saturday at a potato on a farm in Pukekohe near Puni, New Zealand Herald reports.

The worker, who was on break at the time of the accident, reportedly reached to take out something out of the machine. The machine pulled him in.

The farm worker, who came from a humble background, was the youngest of three siblings, the Indian Weekender report reads. The family spent a fortune sending him to New Zealand to study.

The student hailed from Talwandi Salbo village in Punjab. He had arrived in New Zealand recently, Bhav Dhillon, honorary consul for India, confirmed, according to New Zealand Herald.

Indian consulate is providing necessary support to the family. "It is not sure whether they will travel to New Zealand or not as they are not financially well-off," Dhillon said.
