The Indian word for underpants – ‘chuddies’ has become one of the latest words added to the Oxford English dictionary.

Chuddies is one of the 650 words added to the Oxford English dictionary in March.

The recent words added to the dictionary include words from regional vocabularies which were suggested by readers across the globe such as rooked (Scottish for fleeced), Sitt (Arabic-speaking context for a woman or lady), sprigging (Australian word for action of fitting shoe with spikes) among others.

Chuddies, the Indian word has now been defined by the Oxford English dictionary as ‘short trousers, shorts. Now usually: underwear; underpants.’

The announcement created quite a bit buzz on social media.
