Media reports highlighted the similarities between films like Face/Off and this case.
Police said a Telangana businessman M Sudhakar Reddy was killed by his wife along with her paramour as they wanted to live together, India Today reported.
So, this is what happened according to the police.
The accused woman is from Nagarkurnool district of Telangana. She killed her husband and burned his body with the help of her lover.
She then poured acid on her lover’s face. She informed her in-laws that their son had met with an accident. Shocked parents moved the lover to a hospital in Hyderabad for plastic surgery and lodged a complaint about an apparent gang attack.
But they became suspicious when their ‘son’ turned down his favorite mutton soup saying that he was a vegetarian. The parents informed the police. Police took lover’s fingerprints and compared them with the husband’s. Fingerprints did not match and police arrested the wife and the patient, who is still in the hospital.
Police claimed later that 28-year-old woman admitted murdering her husband.
The local police say a 2014 Indian film 'Yevadu' meaning 'Who' inspired the woman and her lover in which one of the characters has plastic surgery to assume the identity of another man. Some have compared the story with famous Hollywood flick Face/Off. News.com writes, "It sounds like the plot of Face/Off with Nicolas Cage and John Travolta but one woman in India was convinced it was a good plan."
