Nita Mehta, a Canadian citizen told Indian news agency ANI, “On January 31, I was traveling by the Malwa express train from Jalandhar Cantonment to New Delhi railway station. A young man climbed the running train and tried to ruthlessly pull the bag off my shoulder. He tried to attempt it several times, while I was being literally dragged off the train.”
Ms. Mehta claimed in a tweet that the attacker, caught and handed over to the police, was released by the police.
Ms. Mehta said, “I tried to tweet to the Delhi Police, the Prime Minister Modi Office (PMO), and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. But I did not get any response whatsoever. Is this how an NRI is treated? Why will anyone ever want to visit a country after this?”

An FIR has been lodged on Monday but the victim alleges discrepancies in the FIR. “Came to India after 9 years with good hopes because when PM Modi came to Canada, he said that PIOs should visit India. FIR filed by police was not accurate & there was no help. No action was taken against accused. Nothing has been done in this matter,” told Nita Mehta.
