In coming years, the Greater Sydney Commission plans to develop Greater Parramatta and the Olympic Peninsula as Central City, a part of a three-city model for Greater Sydney.
They are calling it ‘GPOP’ and Commission’s chief commissioner Lucy Turnbull said its “not just a snappy name, GPOP is a shared vision for the growth of this area as an additional 40,000 people call Parramatta home over the next five years.”
Major features of this development:
- A group, Greater Parramatta and Olympic Peninsula Collaboration Group has been established to develop an area spanning 13km between Greater Parramatta and Strathfield and a further 7km to Carlingford.
- Approximately $8 billion worth of major projects have been planned for Greater Parramatta and the Olympic Peninsula (GPOP).
- The development will mean job and business opportunities, greater housing choice, shorter commute as well as arts, cultural and sporting facilities, schools and outdoor spaces coming up in next few years.

“Government investment alone is $8 billion over the coming years,” Sarah said.
“This is a dynamic area with an enormous amount of activity and opportunity.
“Recently, the Sydney Business Chamber and Westmead Alliance released a report highlighting that Westmead is already home to a number of world-leading medical institutions, and there is great opportunity to leverage Westmead’s reputation to drive future job growth and innovation.
“We are planning for world-class job and business opportunities, greater housing choice, shorter commutes, great arts, cultural and sporting facilities, schools and outdoor spaces.”
The strategic vision for Greater Parramatta and Olympic Peninsula will be on public exhibition by the end of 2016.
