Massive fire at popular Mumbai restaurant kills 15 people

A massive late night fire that broke out at a Mumbai complex has killed at least 15 people, officials said.

A massive fire at a Mumbai restaurant has killed 15 people and injured 19 people, Indian media reports.

Fire broke out at Kamala Mills Compound in the Lower Parel area of Mumbai on Thursday night.

15 people have been reported dead and several others injured, NDTV reports.

Kamala Mills is a refurbished industrial compound which houses several upscale restaurants, bars, and media offices.

NDTV reports the fire started at the 1 Above rooftop restaurant which is on the top floor of the building and it spread to the other restaurant, Mojo Bistro next door.
Most of the casualties were women, many from the group which was celebrating a 28-year-old woman’s birthday.

While police have launched an investigation, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Those injured were rushed to King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital and Sion Hospital.

It took three hours for fire fighters to extinguish the fire.

The news channels in the building – Times Now, Mirror Now and TV9 were affected by the fire and had to stop broadcasting for a few hours.

President Ramnath Kovind tweeted his condolences for those affected by the Mumbai fire.
