What's in a name they say, but a name like Maulana Shaheen Jamali followed by a last name like, "Chaturvedi" does spring a surprise because a Chaturvedi is a person who has in depth knowledge of the 4 Vedas!
Maulana Shaheen Jamali is the principal of Madarsa Imdadul Islam, located in the Hindu-dominated Sadar locality of Meerut. He is playing a vital part in promoting peace and harmony in a community often witnessing communal riots and violence.
Maulana, got the Alim and Mufti degrees and acquired a PhD in the Quran Sharif but wished to continue studies. he acquired an MA degree with Sanskrit from Aligarh Muslim University nand also studied the Vedas and Bhagwat Geeta. His guide was Pandit Basiruddin. That name again is a bit contradictory. Basiruddin was given the title of Pandit by none other than Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru because of his knowledge of Sanskrit texts.
Maulana was amply inspired by his teacher Basiruddin and once when he was speaking at an event in Karnatak the scholars who heard him talk about the Vedas were so impressed that they gave him the title of Chaturvedi. A title well earned and deserved.
