You call a cab. Car arrives. You open the door ready to explain where to go and which way to take. Instead, the driver offers you some ladoos (Indian sweet). The driver plays TV on his phone and offers you to make an international call if you wish.
That is exactly what happens with the customers of Harry Singh, an Uber driver in Australia.
Harry Singh, a resident of New South Wales, hails from Chandigarh in Punjab.
He arrived here in Australia some 11 years ago from New Zealand.
Mechanical engineer by qualification, Singh was hoping for a better job.
“I thought Australia would have more jobs for me as there are more industries. But it did not happen. Industries moved to China and other countries and I moved to driving,” says Singh.
He started driving buses and two years back joined Uber community.
He explains, “While in bus, I used to offer sweets and chocolates to kids but in my own car it became more of a ritual for me. Now I offer sweets and Indian paranthas to my customers to make them aware of Indian culture.”
Singh, religious by nature, believes in humanity. He helps anybody and everybody he can.
People call him from India to seek help and he never says no.
“I am lucky to be in a position where I can help others. I hope to continue it for the rest of my life,” says Harry Singh blissfully.
