It’s that time of the year again!
Eight Indian stand-up comedians will be in Australia to tickle your funny bones at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2019 kick starting today.
From solos shows like ‘Is this even comedy?’ by Rahul Subramanian, ‘Teetar’ by Kanan Gill and ‘Nothing about Godzilla’ by Sumit Anand to a line-up of comedians starring in special shows like Comedy Zone Asia, India’s Improv Dream Team or The Indian All-Star Comedy Showcase, the festival this year boasts of a stellar line-up of Indian comedians.
Here’s a look at who’s who is performing at the festival:
Kanan Gill
A comic superstar, who has over 660k subscribers on his YouTube channel with more than 65 million views, Kanan Gill is bringing his solo show Teetar to Melbourne for the very first time!
In this personal, observational and deeply stupid follow up to his hit 2017 hour, Kanan juggles ideas from Julius Caesar’s death to bands and building societies.
Rahul Subramanian
We met him last year when he made a debut in the Indian All-Star Comedy Showcase and also performed his solo hour Kal Main Udega at the festival.
Oscillating between anecdotal and observational comedy with absurdity as a common thread, Rahul is a master of jokes that offer no opinion whatsoever. This ensures he’s at a safe distance from any kind of trouble and can happily go back to living his life after comedy. Or so he thought…
He returns this year for his solo shows – Is this even comedy? and will also appear in India’s Improv Dream Team line-up.
Sumit Anand
Sumit Anand flew into the comedy scene five years ago and has looked back many times since! Every time he thought of quitting comedy to fail as a musician instead, somebody booked him a show.
In his stand-up, he explores his stand-up. This year, he brings ‘Nothing about Godzilla’, for the audiences in Melbourne.

India’s Improv Dream Team
What happens when India’s biggest improv comedians come together? They unite as India’s Improv Dream Team for the festival.
Kanan Gill, Rahul Subramanian, Naveen Richard will be seen honing their improv skills in games hosted and curated by Kaneez Surka, India's Queen of Improv.
Improv has become the fastest-growing form of comedy and entertainment in India after the success of Comicstaan, The Improvisers - Something from Nothing and The Improv All-Stars Games Night with Kaneez Surka on Amazon Prime Video.
The Improv Dream Team brings that love of improv to live audiences this year.
The Indian All-Star Comedy Showcase
For the third year in a row, the Indian All-Star Comedy Showcase returns for a vibrant showcase bringing the most exciting and energetic performers on the Indian scene to Melbourne, from stand-up and improv stars to YouTube sensations.
This year, the Indian All-Star Comedy showcase stars Anuvab Pal, Kaneez Surka, Naveen Richard and Sonali Thakker.
Comedy Zone Asia
It has become one of the highlights of the festival now.
Comedy Zone Asia this year returns for the fifth year which promises to be one-of-a-kind comedy culture trip that brings the best of the Asian region to Melbourne.
The show this year features two Indian stand-up artists – Anirban Dasgupta and Sonali Thakker along with Zainal Bostaman (Brunei), Fakkah Fuzz (Singapore) and Joanne Kam (Malaysia).
