Mumbai International airport has created a new world record. It handled 969 flights in 24 hours on Friday, the Times of India reported.

Mumbai International Airport Ltd spokesperson said that the airport has broken its own record of 935 flights in a day.

Mumbai has two runways like other mega cities such as New York, London and Delhi but its runways do not operate simultaneously. They criss –cross each other, so only one runway can be used at a time. And on Friday, 969 flights took off or landed on the airport.

Mumbai handles over 900 flights on any averaged day. And number goes above average when the number of unscheduled flights, charter planes and private planes go up. This is what helped the airport creating a new record on Friday.
