How do you explain this mother and child relationship?
How do you explain the number of times a 3-year-old would run up to you, even in a public function to ask if you were happy; how do you explain the miraculous vanishing of all tiredness at the end of a long working day, when you see your child’s smile.
How do I explain the call I received from my son last week when I was working late, asking if he should come and pick me up from office, as I may be too tired to drive back?
Unconditional love – this is the best description I can give to our mother and son relationship.
My experience as a mother has made me discover talent in me that I never imagined I possessed, such as making a handmade suit for a one-year-old. Motherhood made me discover my instinct to fight for justice, when I saw my 6-year-old being enrolled for a Karate course for 2 months in preparation for a program, only to be informed the day before the program that he was too young to be on stage. This after 2 hours of regular enthusiastic practice every day after school for 2 months! Of course he was on stage the next day, it was way too unjust not to be and the mother in me discovered that justice needs to be upheld not just in the legal courts but in our day to day lives too.
The 3-year-old is now in his twenties and asked me recently - `what do you want me do which will make you happy’? And soon embarked on his MBA journey.
My experience as a mother has been that of a confidante, friend, companion, guide and mentor.
I see today in front of me a warm, empathetic and good human being – the joy and richness of this mother and son relationship is far ahead of any wealth or fame that either of us could or would like to earn.
A mother and child relationship – simply priceless!
