Twenty-year-old Commonwealth Games champion Neeraj Chopra posted 88.06 metres, securing the gold in the Men's javelin throw at the Asian Games in Jakarta, setting a new Indian national record.
China's Liu Qizhen followed by taking silver with 82.22m and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem took bronze.
Chopra posted 83.46m in the first attempt which was followed by a foul.

The third attempt, however, swept everyone off their feet - registering 88.06 meters which is his personal best so far.
Chopra's gold is India's only second medal in the javelin throw at the Asian games. Gurtej Sing had won bronze at the New Delhi Asian games in 1982.

This is India's 8th gold medal at the Jakarta Asian games 2018. With a total tally of 41 medals (13 silver, 20 bronze) India stands 9th in the list. China is at the top with 86 gold medals, followed by Japan (43 gold) and the Republic of Korea (28 gold).
