NRI dies in celebratory firing during his wedding

A non-resident Indian groom died during celebratory firing at his wedding function in a small town of Haryana, the police said.

36-year-old Vikram Vohra was hit by a bullet during his wedding function. A resident of Switzerland, Vohra was taken to the hospital. The doctors at a hospital at Patiala declared him “brought dead,” news agency PTI reported.

The incident took place on Saturday night at Guhla town in Kaithal district of Haryana. 

“Preliminary probe showed that a close relative of the groom was firing shots in the air while everyone around was dancing. Someone accidentally brushed against his relative who was holding the gun resulting in the misfire,” the police official said.

A case has been registered.
