Harsha Shah, her daughter Chandni and her brother-in-law Sanjay colluded with a property agent Jaydipkumar Valand to illegally undertake multiple tenancies at their house which was described as “slum” by the local media.

This 1920s property was divided into seven bedrooms on ground floor. Authorities told the Harrow Crown Court that as many as five people were living per bedroom for rents between 40 and 75 pounds per week. The tenants had two bathrooms to share. The fire exits were blocked, the Independent reported.

The kitchen was unusable, so the food was delivered to the tenants.

The landlords made around 360,00 pounds. The authorities are fighting to get this money back.

The public prosecutors told the court the family had a license to rent to one family.

The Shahs were convicted in May last year, but Sanjay had appealed to the High Court against the conviction. The court will announce the sentence at a later date.
