New South Wales government has announced that they will be slashing school fees.
The state government has announced they will inject $115 million into community preschools which will help reduce fees by up to 30 per cent.
This is being done to encourage more parents to enrol their youngsters in early childhood education.
ABC reported that a recent auditor-general's report found the state had some of the highest preschool fees in the country while attendance rates were the lowest in the nation.
This announcement means parents will see average fees reduced to $22 per day for four and five-year-olds who are enrolled for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
The funding will be used to give community preschools across the state increased subsidies from January 1, 2017, which will allow them to drop their fees.
NSW Premier Mike Baird said the evidence showed that the cost of preschool was preventing some parents from sending their children along.
"Parents have been very clear that the level of fees is an inhibitor to our kids going to preschools," he said.
The funding injection will also remove nearly all fees for children from Aboriginal and low-income families at preschools.
