Indian billionaire couple Pankaj and Radhika Oswal who settled their legal dispute with ANZ last week have left Australia for good, The Australian reports.
Oswals had sought $2.5bn from ANZ but settled for $200 million after a month-long settlement talks.
Radhika Oswal told The Australian that the couple is thinking of relocating to New York where their daughter wishes to study.
Ms Oswal said they had “great memories of our lives in Australia before the problems arose with ANZ and the receivers PPB Advisory, but the last six years have been very painful and emotionally draining, so it is time to start a new chapter in our lives”.
She ruled out starting any new business ventures in Australia.
“That is a bit sad because he always believed there were great opportunities in the Australian energy and resources sectors and he would have continued to invest in other circumstances,” she said.
“But I think he is disillusioned about how the system can work against outsiders in Australia.’’
But she thanked Australians for their support and praised the Australian courts.
She said the couple was thinking of moving to New York where her elder daughter Vasundhara would like to study.
“We love the city and we love that New York, like Australia, was made by and for immigrants,” she said.
Pankaj Oswal is currently fighting a legal battle in India against his mother over his late father Abhey Oswal’s business empire.
Meanwhile in Australia, the couple’s Perth mansion, also known as ‘Taj on Swan’ is scheduled to be demolished by the council. The couple plans to sell the land after the demolition.
The couple’s settlement with the ANZ started a day after Radhika Oswal’s damning testimony in the Victorian Supreme Court. She told the court that the bank "had a gun at my head" after threatening she and her husband could be jailed for fraud and their children could become orphans.
