Over 300,000 Indians visited Australia in 2017

More than 300,000 Indians visited Australia last year which is 15.2 percent higher than the previous year.

302,200 Indians travelled to Australia in 2017, according to the data by Tourism Australia. In 2016, the number of Indians travelling to Australia was 259,900.

Almost 70 percent (211,500) of these visitors visited Australia tourist visa. 135,600 were here to meet their relatives or friends while 75,900 were on holidays.

39,000 travelled for business and 19,800 for employment.

Number of Indians visiting Australia for education purpose in 2017 was 18,100 while 14,100 for other purposes.

"As a part of the strategy, a key goal was defined to achieve 3,00,000 Indian arrivals into Australia by the end of this decade (2020), a milestone that has been achieved three years ahead of the defined target date," Tourism Australia country manager, India and Gulf, Nishant Kashikar told Indian news agency PTI.

455,389 Indians live in Australia, according to 2016 census.
