PM Morrison sends his wishes to the Sikh Community of Australia for Gurupurab

Greeting people on the Commemoration of the birth of Guru Nanak Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Wednesday wished that people find this moment a source of strength and inspiration.

In his message, Prime Minister Morrison said, “Commemoration of the birth of Guru Nanak is a moment of deep significance for those of the Sikh faith and for all inspired by his teachings of honesty, equality and goodwill.”

“Sikhism is one of the fastest growing religions in Australia, with 125,000 adherents. For many, the tenets of faith provide guidance and strength; Sikhism is also about community,” said the prime minister.

Sikhs around the world will celebrate 550th birthday of the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev on November 12, 2019.

Many special events will be organised in different parts of Australia to mark this day of celebrations.

PM Morrison says, “In Australia, we are fortunate to live in a land of acceptance and encouragement, where respect for different cultural and religious traditions is part of our national story.”

“This includes respect for the diverse traditions of India, the birthplace of the Sikh faith, and an important and natural partner for Australia in many different spheres.”

He thanked the Sikh community for the commitment to “ensuring our nation remains a beacon

of peace and harmony.”
