NSW detectives investigating the acid murder of a Sydney nurse have executed a search warrant at a pawn shop in Fairfield.
The 39-year-old mother of three, Monika Chetty, was found with 80 per cent acid burns to her body on 3 January 2014, lying in a bush reserve in Ferraro Crescent, West Hoxton in Sydney.
The qualified nurse is believed to have been attacked a week earlier and died 28 days later in the burns unit at the Concord Hospital.
Officers from the Liverpool City Police Area Command earlier this month revealed a new twist to the four-year-old murder case. They believe she knew her attackers and had feared for her life.
Police believe Ms Chetty refused to seek medical attention for her agonising wounds or alert authorities due to the fear of reprisals from her assailant or assailants.
Ms Chetty was a homeless woman and would regularly beg for money in south-west Sydney but would refuse offers of food and a place to sleep.
Acting on information generated by a recent public appeal, detectives executed a search warrant at a pawn shop in Smart Street, Fairfield, around 3 pm on Wednesday 19 September, looking for clues.
Officers suspect Ms Chetty may have had links to the pawn shop.
Detectives confiscated two computer hard drives and business records relating to the pawn shop and inquiries are continuing.
Police are on the lookout for any evidence that might shed light on Ms Chetty’s last known movements and with whom she may have been associating.
