One of Bollywood's most iconic romantic lead actors of the 90s, Rishi Kapoor has breathed his last after battling cancer for two years.
The 67-year-old was admitted to Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan shared the news of the star's demise on Twitter.
'He's gone. I am destroyed!' Bachchan tweeted.
India's local news agency - PTI confirmed the news soon after.
Kapoor was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and travelled to New York for his treatment.
He returned to India last year and was admitted in the hospital on Wednesday morning due to ill health.
He passed away on Thursday, his actor-brother, Randhir Kapoor confirmed.
This news comes in a day after actor Irrfan Khan's death who was admitted to the hospital with colon infection a day before his passing.
Born in Bollywood's famous first family, Kapoor made his debut as a child actor in his father’s film Mera Naam Joker in 1970.

His first role as movie's lead actor came in the iconic Bobby in 1973 opposite Dimple Kapadia, for which he received the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1974.
Over the next two decades, the actor played the romantic lead in dozens of films, giving some memorable performances in Amar Akbar Anthony, Laila Majnu, Rafoo Chakkar, Sargam, Karz, Chandni, Bol Radha Bol among others.
The actor did 12 movies with his wife and actress Neetu Singh.
Later he made a successful transition to character roles as recently seen in Agneepath, 102 not out, Mulk and Kapoor and Sons.
Tributes flowed in on Twitter for the iconic star.
The actor is survived by his wife - Neetu Singh and two kids - Ranbir Kapoor and Riddhima Sahni.
