Saina Nehwal wins Gold, India finish 3rd in CWG

In an all Indian Women’s singles badminton final, former world number one Saina Nehwal beat compatriot PV Sindhu to clinch the Gold medal on the final day of the Commonwealth Games. India overall finished 3rd in the medal tally.

Saina Nehwal beat PV Sindhu 21-18, 23-21 in the finals of the women‘s singles in badminton. World No.1 Kidambi Srikanth had to settle for a silver as he lost to badminton legend Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia 19-21, 21-14, 21-14 in the men’s singles final.

India finished third in this edition of the Commonwealth games with 26 Golds, 20 Silvers and 20 Bronze medals. Indian players did extremely well in shooting, weight lifting, wrestling and Table Tennis in addition to Badminton. India also picked up medals in squash and athletics with Neeraj Chopra winning Gold in javelin throw. Legendary boxer Mary Kom also picked her first CWG Gold. 

Host Australia finished at the top of the table with 80 Golds, 59 Silver and 59 Bronze medals. England was second in the medal‘s tally.
