Music composers and singers Salim Sulaiman Merchant swept the rapturous crowds off their feet at the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations event of the Ismaili community this weekend.
The community is celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of their respected Imam through the world class concert with the two renowned maestros. The performers did not waste a second to keep rolling out Sufi songs and medleys from old films and some of their own Bollywood compositions. They kept the packed house of music lovers involved all the time, requesting the audience to join in, which they certainly did with gusto! And... and ... trust me there were no speeches no bouquets no officials, it was pure music at it's best submerged in spiritual and earthly spirit.
Music and Arts play a significant role in creating Harmony and as such are an important part of any celebration. His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan has said:
“The arts, particularly when they are spiritually inspired, can become a medium of discourse that transcends the barriers of our day to day experiences and preoccupations.”
In total the three concerts were organised, in Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne and the Ismaili community was blessed to have several volunteers who put in 4,000 man hours to make this tour a grand success.
