Shoaib Malik told reporters in Lahore that his child would neither be a Pakistani national, nor Indian. He said, "The nationality does not matter however it will neither be Indian nor Pakistani."

The parents-to-be have decided to deliver the child in a third country. This country might be UAE where the couple spends most of their time together.

Talking to the Pakistani media about his plans, Shoaib Malik said, "I have taken permission from the team management to remain with my wife at the time of birth," he said.
The star couple has decided to give the child the surname Mirza-Malik.

Mirza and Malik recently shared the news of the baby's arrival. In a statement, the couple said, " We are obviously very excited to enter this new phase of our lives. We have been thinking about it for a while and look forward to our journey as parents.”

The couple said they did not plan to have the baby to be a Pakistani or Indian national.

The issue of nationality arises as Sania Mirza has not given up her Indian citizenship to become a Pakistani citizen. However, the child of an Indian woman would be an Indian citizen by law.

In an interview to the Gulf News, 31-year-old tennis star said the nationality does not matter.
“I don’t think that it matters which country they belong to or what colour or what religion they belong to. They need to understand that we are all human beings. Being a good person is much higher than anything else in the world," she said.
