22-year-old law student Amrik Singh says he was asked to leave “Rush in Mansfield” bar in Nottinghamshire for the bar has a “no headwear policy”.

When Amrik Singh told the bar staff about the religious significance of the turban, he was allegedly asked: “I didn't think you were allowed to drink anyway.”

The bar management later apologised and suspended the staff involved, BBC reported.

Singh is a law student at Nottingham Trent University. He visited the bar with friends on Friday. He was initially allowed in. After some half an hour, a bar staff asked him to remove his turban.

"I explained that a turban isn't just headgear, but part of my religion and that I was allowed to wear a turban in public. The bouncer ignored this and said I needed to take it off. I refused and was subsequently dragged away from my friends," Singh told BBC.

He did not report the incident to the police as he believed no law had been broken but said he felt victimised.

“This experience ruined my night. It broke my heart,” said Singh.

He had posted about the incident on Facebook. However, he took the post down later.

Singh expressed gratitude for the support he received after the incident. He said in a Facebook post, "After speaking to those close to me- I have decided to take down the viral post in hopes it doesn’t effect any future proceedings."
