Sixty-one-year-old Kawal Singh had died earlier in August. He was found dead on the doorstep of Redbridge Council's building.

London-based migration lawyer Ravinder Singh Sheokand says the community is shocked.

“We know many people face hardships in Britain. We also know the community helps when and where possible.

"And yet, we failed these fellow human beings, many of whom were not able to return to India or work here. It breaks my heart,” Sheokand told SBS Hindi.

According to Mr Sheokand, Sodhi had arrived in the UK in 1995 and sought political asylum.

"In 2006, he fell out of the system after losing his cash-in-hand job. He had developed a severe alcohol addiction," says Mr Sheokand.
