Qantas flight QF94 was coming to Melbourne from Los Angeles on Friday evening. The airlines told media on Sunday that the plane returned to Los Angeles after sparks were seen one of the four engines. The incident took place on Friday after the flight was two hours into its trip.

According to reports the pilot was forced to abort the flight, with passengers saying sparks were seen coming from an engine.

"@Qantas Flight94 to Melbourne returned to LAX with sparks coming from an engine & now being inspected," one passenger tweeted.

The airlines denied reports that the engine caught fire. It said that sparks may have been from the engine overheating.

The statement released by the airlines said, "Friday night's QF94 A380 service from Los Angeles to Melbourne turned back to LA because of an issue with one of the aircraft's four engines."
