KJ Singh and his 92-years-old mother Gurcharan Kaur were found murdered at their house in Mohali. Confirming the double murder, Mohali SSP Kuldeep Chahal told local media that motive was being investigated.
KJ Singh had worked with the Indian Express, The Times of India and The Tribune Chandigarh in his long career. He was working as a freelance for a Canadian magazine.
He was stabbed in the stomach, probably when he opened the door as the trail of blood led to the room where his dead body was found. Later, his throat was slit. His bedridden mother was strangulated, according the Hindustan Times report.
Singh's green Ford Ikon car and a LED TV are missing from the house.
Punjab chief minister Capt. Amrinder Singh said that thorough investigation will be ensured. He tweeted, "Have directed DGP to ensure thorough probe into murder of journalist KJ Singh & his mother in Mohali. SIT has been set up under IG (Crime).
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbeer Singh Badal also condemned the incident.
