Heart disease is the top cause of death in Australia. 12 per cent of all deaths were caused by Ischaemic heart disease. It killed 19,077 people in 2016. Although the number is down from 19,777 in 2015.

Second spot is taken by Dementia and Alzheimer’s which killed 8.3 per cent people in 2016.
At number three is cerebrovascular diseases followed by Trachea, Bronchus and Lung Cancer and Chronic Lower Respiratory diseases.

In women, though, the top most killer is dementia followed by heart diseases. Top five causes overall killed 37.3 per cent people. Bowel cancer killed more people in Australia than diabetes in 2016 and now is at number six.
