Thousands gather to celebrate Dusshera in Melbourne

The day ended with the burning of Raavan’s effigy and a 20-minute long display of fireworks.

The Indian community in Melbourne turned out in huge numbers on a sunny Sunday to celebrate Dusshera in Melbourne.

The day began with a special cultural program which included traditional dance performances from different parts of India, live band, Bollywood songs and a special theatrical performance of traditional Ram Leela.

The highlight of the event was the attendance of The Great Khali, the India-born American professional wrestler who was the chief guest at the event.

The venue had several food stalls which included Indian delicacies like Samosas, Cholle Bhature, Chaat and Indian sweets.

Traditional clothes and jewellery were on display at several stalls at the venue.
