Three Indian films selected for the Sydney Film Festival

The Sydney Film Festival has announced its 2019 program with three Indian films making it to the final program of the 66th Sydney Film Festival to be held in June.

A documentary film 'Reason' by internationally acclaimed filmmaker Anand Patwardhan will be screened at the Sydney Film Festival (SFF) on Sunday 9 June. 'Reason' has been receiving accolades at various international film festivals. It was the winner of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam IDFA's prestigious Best Feature Length Documentary prize.

According to the SFF, 'Reason' is an epic exploration of the battle between faith and reason in today's India.'

Patwardhan is known for documentary films like Jai Bhim Comrade, Father, Son and Holy War and In the Name of God. All these films were screened at previous sessions of the Sydney Film Festival.

Another Indian film that has made it to the cut is 'Photograph' by Ritesh Batra.

It is a funny love story about a Mumbai street photographer who convinces a shy stranger to pose as his fiancée, according to the SFF.

Batra is known for his film The Lunchbox which was screened at SFF in 2014. Nawazuddin Siddiqi starer 'Photograph' will be screened on Sunday 9 June 2019.

'The Sweet Requiem' is the third Indian film being screened at SFF this year. This is a narrative feature by Dharamshala-based doco team Ritu Sarin and Tenzing Sonam. The film set among Tibetan exiles in Delhi has won NETPAC Award, Kolkata.

'The Sweet Requiem' is a story of Dolkar, a young woman who embarked on a perilous trek to India with her father when she was a girl. Now firmly part of Delhi's large Tibetan community, Dolkar is helping Gompar, a recent arrival fleeing Chinese security forces in Lhasa.
