The micro-blogging network has redesigned its website – Twitter.com and rolled out seven Indian languages for its users to post personalised messages in language.
The refreshed Twitter website has enabled support for seven Indian languages – Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil and Kannada.
Notably, several of these languages are also widely spoken in India’s neighbouring countries – Urdu in Pakistan, Tamil in Sri Lanka and Bengali in Bangladesh.
The new changes are aimed at encouraging more regional users to use the micro-blogging platform and will be rolled out over the next few weeks to all users.
“We want people in India to be able to find tweets and accounts which match their unique and diverse interests. We want them to be connected to content and people in their languages,” Patrick Traughber, senior product manager at Twitter, said in a press statement.
The new website design will have features such as explore, lists and bookmarks for regional language users. And it will also enable users to easily switch between multiple accounts.
