Two people were arrested in Kolkata, India on Wednesday in an alleged case of data theft involving Australian telecom company Teleminds Infotech Private Limited.
22-year-old Ayan Srimani and 20-year-old Suresh Dutta were arrested after the company alleged that the duo had duped their Australian clients and obtained their financial details, The Indian Express reports.
In a complaint lodged at the Bidhannagar Commissionerate on September 13, the company has alleged that the accused had called up its subscribers in Australia and duped them into providing details of their finances.
“They stole money from the subscribers and later, in the name of refunding the fund, they again cheated the victims of more money,” said a police officer.
The two accused have been arrested and charged for offences under Indian Penal Code (IPC) for theft, criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery for purpose of cheating, using forged document as genuine, punishment for extortion, criminal conspiracy and for acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.
