Uber driver pleads not guilty over man's death

Mr Nazrul Islam pleading not guilty after being charged with negligent driving occasioning death after a 30-year-old man was hit and killed by a bus in Sydney's CBD in June 2017.

Nazrul Islam, an Uber driver, has pleaded not guilty over the death of a passenger in Sydney last year.

Nazrul Islam was charged with negligent driving occasioning death after a 30-year-old man was hit and killed by a bus in Sydney's CBD in June 2017.

As reported by AAP, His lawyer Ali Cheema entered a plea of not guilty in Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday, and Islam's bail was continued before his next appearance on February 28.

Police earlier stated that on June 17, 2017, Islam had dropped off his passenger at a set of lights near Bathurst Street around 3.15am. Then the man fell onto the road and into the path of a bus when the car accelerated.

The passenger died at the scene.

Police claim that there were multiple witnesses and video of the incident.

As per the court papers, Islam has been in Australia on a bridging visa from Bangladesh for five years.

He has lived in Auburn for the past four years.

Islam has surrendered his passport and must stay away from international airports, As a bail condition.
