What is means to live in the shadow of domestic violence and how it impacts a person, was poignantly shared by Australian Labor Party’s MP Emma Husar in the parliament on the eve of White Ribbon Day in Australia.
Ms Husar’s speech went viral across Australia as a politician laid bare her struggle with coping with domestic violence, first at the hands of her father and later her husband.
In a poignant speech, Ms Husar described how her mother took her and her sister along and fled several times she was attacked by her father, a war veteran.
“The last time they (police) arrived, there were 13 police cars,” she said holding back tears.
