The dream of this Australian couple was never closer than it is now to becoming a reality.
“It’s amazing. We were in limbo for two years,” says Elizabeth who loves India and wants to adopt Indian siblings.
But it was not possible earlier as Australia had banned adoption from Indian for almost eight years. The ban has now been lifted paving the way for many Australian parents like Elizabeth and Adam to adopt children from India.
“We have been researching and looking into adoption before that time. And not that it has been lifted, we can become parents,” Elizabeth told SBS Hindi.
The couple could have adopted a child from somewhere else too, but both Adam and Elizabeth say they are fascinated with Indian culture and society.

Adam explains the feeling as a connection. He says, “I feel, we have a strong cultural connection with India. We have travelled there three times now. And, we have just grown to love everything about it. The culture, the food. Western culture sits very dull," he says.
"We are not very sociable people in a country like Australia, as much as we like to think we are. When you go to the country like India and travel through the region, your eyes are opened up to just how wonderful people can be.”
The couple has already applied for the adoption. They would prefer siblings and are also open to adopting children with special needs.
