Aizawl FC team’s fans, mostly from Mizoram, won many hearts with their version of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ (#MyCleanIndia).

As soon as the Aizawl FC-Shillong Lajong match ended at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong, Meghalaya - a beautiful North-eastern state of India, the Mizo fans went about collecting and disposing of the trash left behind by some 23,000 spectators, reports the Hindustan Times.

RG Lyngdoh, former deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya told the paper - “Thank you Aizawl football fans for cleaning the trash after the match yesterday at Polo (area where the football stadium is). This speaks volumes of your attitude. We, the rest, should learn from them.”

Many people took to Twitter to acknowledge the fans’ gesture and their efforts to send a message.

“Salute! Civic sense and sanitation across Mizoram very highly commendable,” said Omar Resilient Shadap.

Usually, after a win cleanliness is not on the agenda of fans anywhere in the world.

Thousands of fans leave behind a lot of trash.

It takes days to clean the stands.
