What's Buzzing

We round up 5 trends this fortnight that are either making the right noises or dying a slow death

Trends that are making the right noise

Bell Sleeves
It is believed that the Japanese kimonos gave birth to bell sleeves. Bell sleeves, as the name suggest, are sleeves that generally flare out from the elbow onwards. There is no limit to the flare and no to where it starts to flare out. A trend that has been huge this winter… Shops are flooded with bell sleeve jackets, knits and tops. Pick one before it dies.

Loafers

For the longest time, loafers were a man’s domain but this year more and more women are sporting these loafers in anything from neutral tones to shiny, sparkly ones. The open-back version, also called the ‘Mules’ are also big this season. Especially creating a lot of noise are the faux fur trimmed mules.  If you are wearing one, you are on trend.

Trends that are dying a slow death

Choker
No more choking your necks, literally! While the summer was all about these fitted necklaces in blacks, gold, laces and velvet, winter has given way for other accessories. Do yourself a favour, don’t wear these chokers anymore.

Crop Tops
Showing your belly is passé! All your short, cropped tees are better hiding in your treasure box. We overdid this trend like there’s no tomorrow, it’s time to give crop blouses, knits and anything that sits above your navel, a farewell.

Braids
Braids are timeless and classic, but the ones we are talking about are the pigtail braids. Everyone and their mother were sporting these braids to the gym, to a party, a dinner, a shopping centre… wherever you turned these pigtail braids were in your face.  Time to let your hair down or up in a bun or whatever catches your fancy, just not pigtail braids!
